Why

The ageing watermain is being replaced to create a more reliable network. We are doing this work at the same time we’re installing new priority bus lanes and completing other safety improvement work in the area, to minimise future disruption.

Details

This is stage 1.4 of works and is part of a watermain upgrade along the length of Lincoln Road from the Barrington Street/Whiteleigh Avenue intersection, through to Moorhouse Avenue.

All work has been planned in stages to reduce the impact on local businesses and residents, and to keep traffic flowing as best as possible.

Grove Road will be closed from 1June to 17 June 2022. Hazeldean Road will be one-way eastbound from 1June to 1 July 2022. These closures will be in place 24 hours a day for the duration of the works.

Impacts on traffic

  • A detour will be in place for the Grove Road closure and the Hazeldean Road one-way system. Please follow temporary traffic signage.
  • Cyclists may need to merge with traffic through the work area, and at times may be asked to dismount and use the footpath where cycle lanes are impacted. Please follow signage.
  • Speed will be reduced to 30km/h through the work area.
  • Pedestrian access to footpaths will be maintained at all times with pedestrian detours in place at times. Please follow the signage.

Impacts of work

  • On-street parking will be affected on both sides of Grove Road inside the closure, and on the west side of Hazeldean Road where we are working.
  • The one-way system on Hazeldean Road will allow traffic to turn off Lincoln Road towards Grove Road.
  • Access to the Hazeldean Business Park off Harman Street will remain at all times with access off Hazeldean Road restricted during the works.
  • We will keep work areas small where possible. Road cones and signage will indicate where parking and driveway access is not available.
  • Property access will be maintained where possible. We will work with businesses and residents during the work. Please let us know if you have any specific property access needs e.g., medical visits, home help, large vehicle deliveries or planned works.
  • There will be increased noise, dust, and vibration from the use of machinery for activities such as saw cutting, hydro excavation, and plate compaction.
