149 Main South Road - Sockburn Service Centre demolition

We’re demolishing the old Sockburn Service Centre building on Main South Road.

The building was badly damaged in the February 2011 earthquake and is uneconomic to repair, so it is going to be demolished and the site cleared.

The contractor is Taggart. Phone Mike Smart, Demolition Manager, on 027 228 7270.

  • Six other smaller buildings on the site will also be demolished, however the water reservoir and pump station on the site will remain.
  • This 2.7 hectare site will be retained by the Council.

Construction impacts

  • Access to the site will be restricted while this work is carried out. The Sockburn Service Centre building has been assessed by engineers as earthquake-prone and has been cordoned off since the earthquakes for safety reasons.
  • There will be increased noise, dust, light, and vibration levels that we will try to keep to a minimum.
  • Safety is our number one priority. Safety is your responsibility too. Stay clear and stay alert. Keep children and pets at a safe distance from the work site.
