Details

We're installing two new sets of traffic signals on Harewood Road, at the Breens Road and Gardiners Road intersection and outside Harewood School.

We’re also installing watermain and stormwater upgrades at the above locations, and minor safety improvements near Harewood School.  These improvements include:

  • Widening the path adjacent to 99 Stanleys Road.
  • Replacing the kerb on the western side of the Stanleys Road intersection.
  • Widening the pedestrian refuge island at the Wooldridge Road intersection.
  • A new pedestrian crossing on Waimakariri Road.

The first stage of work will take five weeks, starting on Monday 17 November 2025 at the Harewood Road, Breens Road, and Gardiners Road intersection, and on Harewood Road near Harewood School. There will also be work at the Stanleys Road and Wooldridge Road intersections, and on Waimakariri Road. There will be a period of nightworks near the Harewood Road, Gardiners Road and Breens Road intersection.

Our contractor, Isaac Construction will provide more information about the impact of the work through their channels. For more information, please sign up for updates by scanning the QR code or calling Elizabeth on 027 405 2465 or 0800 472 222.

Traffic Impacts

From Monday 17 November we plan to have the following traffic management in place:

  • A road closure on Gardiners Road between Goya Place and Harewood Road. There will be no access to Harewood Road via Gardiners Road.
  • A lane-drop on Harewood Road in each direction between Crofton Road and Leacroft Street. Two-way traffic will be maintained.
  • No entry to Harewood Road from Johns Road/State Highway 1.
  • A one-way system on Harewood Road between Watsons Road and Russley Road/State Highway 1.

Our contractors will break for the Christmas period on Friday 19 December and traffic management will be reduced on site during this time.

Super week

The second stage of work will begin with a super week, 7 days of 24-hour work, from the evening of Sunday 4 January to the evening of Sunday 11 January 2026. The super week will see the full closure of the Harewood Road, Breens Road and Gardiners Road intersection, and will significantly reduce the duration of the work. There will also be work at the intersection of Harewood Road and Waimakariri Road near Harewood School, and along Whitchurch Place.

Isaac Construction will hold an information session about the super week in early December. Please sign up for updates by scanning the QR code or by reaching out to Elizabeth on the contact information provided.

The final stage of work will continue from Monday 12 January with minor traffic management in place and will focus on finishing work such as line marking and traffic light commissioning. This work will take about a month to complete.

Information for residents and businesses

  • Temporary traffic management (road cones, signs) will be installed as part of the work.
  • Please expect traffic delays and changes to traffic management.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 30km/h through the site to keep our contractors safe.
  • We’ll need to temporarily remove some on-street parking to allow space for the works.
  • Bus detours will be in place. Please see metro.co.nz for more information.
  • The nature of the work will generate noise, dust, and vibrations.
  • At times, several footpaths and pedestrian crossings will be closed while our crew are working. When this happens, there will be traffic controllers on hand to escort pedestrians across the road.
  • Access to residences and businesses may be temporarily impacted at times. Our team will make access available as soon as possible. For more information, please reach out to Elizabeth via the contact details provided.
  • Please advise if you have any specific property access requirements e.g. medical visits, large deliveries, home help and any planned works, so our team can accommodate these.
  • This work will require several planned water shut-offs. You’ll receive further notification from the contractor prior to this happening, if you are affected.
  • Please put your bins out as usual by 6am on your collection day. Our team will move them and return them, if needed. You may like to label your bins, so they are easy to identify at the end of the day.
