Elmwood Park - sports surface upgrade and irrigation renewal

What

Major renovation of the Park’s sports surfaces and renewal of the irrigation system.

Why

The sports field condition at Elmwood Park has been below an acceptable level for some years, the main issues being poor field levels and turf cover, a marginal irrigation system and poor alignment of the cricket blocks.

Where

Heaton Street, Strowan.

When

06 March 2023 to 31 December 2023. Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm. Saturday, 8am to 6pm (weather/site condition dependent).

Contact

The contractor is Terrafirma Turf. Phone Chris Lewis on 021 994 430.

Details

The park will be re-levelled and new grass established. A new irrigation system will be installed. Two of the three cricket blocks will be repositioned to provide a safer playing environment as well as minimising the impact from winter sports use. Work will be completed in two stages to keep as much of the park open for public use as long as possible and to minimise disruption.

Stage 1 scope of works:

  1. Installation of temporary fencing
  2. Spray out of the existing surface
  3. Existing sprinkler head salvage (stage 1 and stage 2 works areas)
  4. Removal of one cricket block
  5. Cultivation and levelling of surface
  6. Installation of a new irrigation system to both stage 1 and stage 2 works areas
  7. Installation of two new cricket blocks
  8. Turf grass sowing and grow-in

Stage 2 scope of works, commencing Spring 2023:

  1. Installation of temporary fencing
  2. Spray out of the existing surface
  3. Cultivation and levelling of surface
  4. Turf grass sowing and grow-in

We anticipate there will be some on-going noise associated with general sports field re-levelling activity and as materials are brought into the site and excavated materials removed. We will be making every effort to minimise the impact of this work as much as possible.

A temporary access way will be made for vehicles to enter the site off Heaton Street Road. This may cause some temporary disruption to public access to the section of the site remaining open during the works.
