Water and roading infrastructure in the city’s northwest is being upgraded to make sure these essential services continue to meet the needs of our growing communities.
Starting January 2026, pipe replacement and transport projects in the area will get underway as part of a coordinated work programme spanning two years.
Aging wastewater and water supply pipes will be replaced and, in some cases, upsized to meet increasing demand.
A new separated cycleway will be built on Matsons Avenue, connecting the recently constructed cycleway on Aorangi Road to Harewood Road as part of the NorWest Arc cycleway, and on the north side of Harewood Road as part of the Wheels to Wings Cycleway.
Street renewals and resurfacing will improve safety and traffic flow on Condell Avenue, Matsons Avenue and Harewood Road.
We know road works can be frustrating. We’ve carefully planned our programme to reduce disruption, keep traffic flowing, and get out of the way as quickly as possible.
Combining three waters and transport projects means we can plan the programme to reduce disruption, keep traffic flowing, and get out of the way as quickly as possible.
The programme will be completed over two years, with the first project due to start in January 2026 and the last project due to finish in December 2027.
The exact timing of each project will be confirmed once contracts are in place. We’ll update this page with details as each project gets underway.
Traffic management will be in place for each project within this programme. We’ve carefully planned our programme to reduce disruption and keep traffic flowing.
In partnership with our contractors, we’ll make sure there’s clear information on any detours or other changes to traffic flows throughout the duration of the programme.
We’ll keep this page updated with details, including links to individual Start Works Notices for each project as they get started.
