We're making a busy stretch of Harewood Road safer for all users and upgrading stormwater and water pipes.
Traffic lights are being installed at the intersection of Harewood Road, Gardiners Road and Breens Road, as well as a signalised pedestrian crossing and a safe speed platform at Harewood School Te Kura o Tāwera, and other minor improvements nearby.
The work also includes:
Stormwater and water supply pipes in the area are also being upgraded. This work includes:
Our Transport and Three Waters teams have coordinated their work in the area to minimise disruption by taking a one-pass approach. This approach ensures that once we leave, we won’t need to carry out planned road works in these streets again for a number of years.
We know road works can be frustrating. We’re mindful of the impact on residents, schools and businesses in the area and have carefully planned this work so we can reduce disruption, keep traffic flowing, and get out of your way as quickly as possible. Our contractor, Isaac Construction, will have traffic management plans in place for each stage of the work. For information on detour routes, to check the works notice or to subscribe to updates, visit Isaac Construction's Harewood Road traffic signals and water upgrades(external link) webpage. Thanks for your patience while we carry out this important work. A ‘super week’ is planned for seven days from the evening of Sunday 4 January to minimise the overall impact and timeframe of the works. During the super week, Isaac Construction will be working 24 hours a day for seven days. The intersection of Harewood Road, Gardiners Road and Breens Road will be closed, and detours will be in place. We’re deliberately doing this in the quieter holiday period to minimise disruption to local residents and businesses, and Harewood School Te Kura o Tāwera. The super week will significantly reduce the overall timeframe for the project. A new delivery plan for the Wheels to Wings Major Cycle Route was approved by the Council as part of the Annual Plan 2025/2026. This means that the following sections will be delivered over 2025 to 2027: cycle connections along Harewood Road from Matsons Avenue to the railway. This will provide a connection from the Nor’West Arc to the Northern Line.
