Fendalton Community Centre building has re-opened.
The Fendalton Community Centre fared well during the earthquakes and has a seismic capacity of 50 per cent of New Building Standard. However, until June 2013, it was closed because critical services were damaged including water, waste and electrical services. These services have now been restored and a damaged canopy removed, allowing the building to re-open.
There is still earthquake damage to the building that needs to be fixed (both cosmetic work and re-levelling work). The Council is currently talking to its insurers and, once costed and agreed to, the work will be scheduled in due course.
The building is one of the top 30 Council facilities identified as a priority to investigate and resolve as fast as possible.
