The rates Council has set for the year beginning 1 July 2023.

Council set rates for the year beginning 1 July 2023 at its meeting on 27 June 2023. Council sets rates under Section 23 of the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002.

Schedule 10 of the Local Government Act 2002 sets out the information that Council must include in its Long Term Plan (published every three years) or Annual Plan (published every other year).  This must include a Funding Impact Statement (FIS). Clauses 15 and 20 of Schedule 10 set out what a FIS must contain. This includes matters such as:

  • particulars of the valuation system used for rating
  • the definition of "separately used or inhabited part of a rating unit", which is what the Council's Uniform Annual general Charge is based on
  • the definitions of the different differentials applied to general rates (e.g. standard, commercial, remote rural)
  • how targeted rates are set (e.g. on what category or categories of land).
