Community outcomes describe what the Council aims to achieve in meeting the current and future needs of our communities for good quality local infrastructure, local public services, and regulatory functions.
The community outcomes set the direction for the Council's long term plan and its other key strategy and planning documents.
The Council looked at the goals of its key planning documents. In particular we went back to what our communities told us they wanted for our future as a community when we talked with them in developing these plans.
Our community outcomes reflect the Council's long experience with working with communities and other organisations to contribute to a quality lifestyle for all our community.
The outcomes are also framed to ensure the Council can give effect to the purpose of local government, which is:
Care has been taken to ensure the outcomes align with key planning documents in the post-earthquake environment, including the Greater Christchurch Urban Development Strategy and the Christchurch Central Recovery Plan.
The Council has consulted with the community on the community outcomes and will continue to talk with our communities to ensure the outcomes remain relevant and enjoy the support of community organisations and residents.
Everything the Council does is focused on making progress towards achieving our community outcomes. We do this through aligning our strategies with the activities the organisation undertakes. All capital and operating expenditure is directed towards delivering a level of service designed to help achieve these outcomes now or at some point in the future.
Activities, levels of service, capital and operating expenditure, and outcomes are set out in the Council's long term plan.
We can't achieve these community outcomes on our own. The Council works with a wide range of community groups and other agencies to achieve these outcomes. Working together with our partner organisations helps achieve lasting results for our community.
The progress we make towards achieving our community outcomes is tracked using a range of performance measures and indicators. We will publish performance data on an on-going basis through this website.
We will also produce a progress report periodically. This report will inform the Council's decision-making for the long term plan and will provide a comprehensive snapshot of the state of our community for incoming councils.
