Better streets & spaces  |  29 Aug 2019

A revised scheme design for revitalising Victoria Street, in central Christchurch, has been approved.

The revised scheme involves replacing dilapidated stormwater drains, kerb and channel, footpaths, road surface and street lighting along Victoria Street and improving the street's appearance through the addition of more trees and landscaping.

Widened footpaths, coloured surfacing, cycle lane markings, raised platforms and traffic calming measures are also included in the scheme design to provide improved definition for road users and a safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists.

The Council plans to carry out the work on Victoria Street in stages to minimise the disruption to the local community. Details of when the work gets under way and timing will be worked through once the contract is let.
