With SummerTimes in full swing and some of the best buskers in the world performing across Christchurch's city centre, there is plenty to keep everyone entertained this weekend.

Kite Day

The skies above New Brighton beach will be awash with kites on Saturday as the seaside suburb plays host to Kite Day. About 5000 people are expected at the beach for the event, which runs from 1 to 4pm.  You can bring your own kite to fly or simply come down and watch other people’s amazing kits soar on the steady sea breeze. Some of the country’s top kite makers are taking part in this free family event so  it should be a fantastic afternoon.

Canadian four-man creative powerhouse Quatour Stomp are among the buskers performing this weekend.

World Buskers Festival

The 25th World Buskers Festival is in full swing this weekend so make sure you head into the city centre and catch some of street performers in action.  You can find details of all the acts and where and when they are performing on the festival's website

Ingham's Lazy Sundays

The talented Sacha Vee will be centre stage at Ingham's Lazy Sundays this weekend.  Sacha Vee blends the smooth silk of jazz and soul with the raw edges of hip-hop and electronic pop and has a global following so this is one act you don't want to miss.  Bring a rug and a cushion and settle down on the Botanic Garden's Archery Lawn for the free concert, which begins at 3.30pm.

Little River A&P Show

If you fancy a taste of country life head to the Little River A&P Show.  The annual event at the picturesque Awa-iti domain is the highlight of the year for many local farmers, growers and producers and a great family day out. You can watch dog trials and sheep shearing competitions, enjoy magic shows and sample great country fare. The show is on from 8am to 5pm on Saturday and admission is $10 for children over 12 and adults.

Hagley Park Polo Tournament

Some of New Zealand’s finest polo players will be taking part in a polo tournament in South Hagley Park on Sunday. The tournament starts at midday and the public are welcome to come along and watch the fast-paced action. Bring a rug and a picnic and pitch a spot under the trees.  

Live at the Point

This Sunday marks the second in a series of Live at the Point music events in the grounds of Godley House, in Diamond Harbour. Head over by ferry or drive around the bays and settle back and watch the Matecito Latin Band perform a free two-hour concert, starting at 2.30pm.
