Lyttelton’s night sky will light up with fireworks on Friday when the port town plays host to its annual Festival of Lights Street Party.

The Lyttelton Port of Christchurch fireworks display will start at 8pm.

Always a night to remember, this year’s Street Party kicks off at 6pm and will include a parade, food stalls, live music from The Eastern, Mundi and The Settlers, and the much loved Lyttelton Port of Christchurch Fireworks display at 8pm.

The Street Party always attracts a huge crowd so if you are planning on heading over to Lyttelton on Friday night here are a few things you need to know:

  • Parking in Lyttelton will be extremely limited.
  • The best way to get the Street Party will be by bus.
  • Extra bus services will run on the 28 and 535 lines to and from Lyttelton.
  • If you are driving to the event, leave your car at Eastgate Car Park, or Chapman's Rd (just before the Tunnel) and take the bus provided for a gold coin donation. Buses will run to and from these locations between 5.30pm and 10pm.
  • London St, from Canterbury St to Oxford St, will be closed to traffic from midday Friday to 1am Saturday. 
  • London St, from Dublin St to Canterbury St, will be closed from 2pm Friday to 1am Saturday.
  • Canterbury St, from Norwich Quay to Winchester St, will be closed from 2pm Friday to 1am Saturday.
