Dog owners who currently have Responsible Dog Owner status have until the end of the month to pay their reduced dog registration fee.

Register your dog before June 30 to keep your Responsible Dog Owner status.

"We want to remind dog owners who have Responsible Dog Owner status to ensure they attend to this before the end of the month so they retain their status,'' said Christchurch City Council Senior Animal Management Officer Bill Kohi.

Responsible Dog Owner is a special dog ownership category that recognises good dog owners and entitles them to a reduced annual dog registration fee. To be eligible for the status, dog owners must have a record of good and responsible dog ownership, consistent and timely payment of dog registration fees, and a history of compliance with relevant legal requirements.

Failure to pay the registration fee by June 30  means the status could be lost and the owner would be unable to apply for the status again for two years.

"We want to reward and recognise the kind of dog owners who set a great example for others and this discounted dog registration fee and ownership status is our way of doing that,'' Mr Kohi said.
