A virtual Magical Park experience that transformed three Christchurch parks into digital fantasy playgrounds will continue at Christchurch’s Ouruhia Reserve until the end of June.

The app was launched to encourage families to explore the parks through a blended virtual world, chasing dinosaurs or collecting kittens at Wycola Park, Cypress Gardens Reserve and Ouruhia Reserve.

Using a mobile device, kids get to interact and explore a fantasy world where they have to herd kittens, run away from the bad fairy or come face to face with a giant T-Rex.

Magical Park had been a big success and the team managing the app have been able to report back on usage. For one week alone in March, there were almost 500 park visitors across the three parks, and more than 230 sessions of Magical Parks.

The results have encouraged the Council to keep the magic alive at one park, Ouruhia Reserve, until the end of June.

A new game feature, aliens, has also been added to the virtual mix.
