Motorists travelling on SH1 Russley Rd this weekend are being warned to expect delays.

Lane closures, detours and other traffic management will be in place between Memorial Ave and the Harewood Rd roundabout over the weekend while contractors lay the final asphalt surface.

People heading to Christchurch International Airport are advised to allow plenty of extra travel time.

On Saturday south-bound traffic on Russley Rd will be reduced to one lane from 4am. On Sunday south-bound traffic will be moved onto the north-bound lane from early morning until 6am Monday. There will be no access to Wairakei Rd from Russley Rd. Traffic will be detoured via Memorial Ave.  Motorists should factor an extra 10 minutes into their travel time.

The work is part of the $112 million Russley Rd upgrade.
