An eye-catching make-over has transformed a previously bland hoarding in Cathedral Square.

Cathedral Square has a new pop of colour.

A large artwork by Christchurch-based designer Marike Uys has been attached to the hoarding around the Old Post Office building to add some colour and vibrancy to the area.

Constructed in panels, the artwork, Life and Hope, was created by Uys to portray the city’s regeneration after the earthquakes and is designed to reflect Christchurch looking to the future with hope and expectancy.

“It’s a great addition to Cathedral Square and another example of the creativity that is being used to liven up spaces in our city that, following the earthquakes, are still waiting to be repaired or developed,’’ said Christchurch City Council Head of Urban Design, Regeneration and Heritage Carolyn Ingles.

“It creates a new point of interest and hopefully people will enjoy the pop of colour”.

The artwork will remain in place until such time as the hoarding is no longer required. The art panels can then be shifted to another location.
