The Port Hills fire has made it a stressful week for many, but if you're looking to relax over the weekend here's our guide to what's on.

Great News! Christchurch Lantern Festival will go ahead on Sunday 19 February

The Lantern Festival, hosted by Christchurch City Council in partnership with the Asia New Zealand Foundation, will still be held on Sunday night from 5pm until 10.30pm, weather permitting. Food and craft stalls will commence from 1pm, entertainment will commence as per the advertised programme.

Lantern Festival has been cancelled for Saturday due to rain. There will be no food vendors or performances but the lanterns will still be on. 

Please note there will be no fireworks as previously advertised.

Free concert

Gershwin to Gaga will be on offer at the Ingham's Lazy Sunday concert in the Archery Lawn at the Botanic Gardens this Sunday when the Christchurch Pops Choir takes to the stage. They will be performing songs from a wide range of genres during the free 90-minute concert, which starts at 3pm.

The bard by the Avon

On Saturday why not head to Mona Vale for a dose of the bard. For this year's Summer Shakespeare Festival, Top Dog Theatre is presenting one of Shakespeare's lesser known plays, Two Gentlemen of Verona. Saturday is your last chance to catch this play, with performances scheduled for 2pm, 4pm, 6pm and 8pm.  Find out how to get tickets.

Quidditch tournament

Harry Potter fans unite! The Quidditch Association of New Zealand is holding its first ever Quidditch Camp at Spencer Park this weekend. The New Zealand 2017 Quidditch Camp, National Tournament  will feature an array of mixed-team tournaments, inter-island (North vs South) face-offs, quidditch workshops hosted by local and international players, a quiz night,  and an AGM. ’A Place to Remember’ documentary

A television doco will screen on Sunday night, TV1 at 11.55am that follows the commissioning, design and development of the Canterbury Earthquake National Memorial to commemorate those who died in the February 22, 2011 disaster. The documentary tracks an exhaustive process where ideas from around the world are whittled down to six finalists before the winning design is chosen for Christchurch. #placeto remember
