Councillor and Community Board candidates for Burwood Ward.

Burwood Ward - Councillor (1 required)

Glenn LIVINGSTONEThe People's Choice - Labour

My principal place of residence is in the Burwood Ward area.

The last nine years have been a huge challenge as Burwood was the worst affected ward in the earthquakes. Over $400m has been spent renewing sewers, water mains, roads and footpaths but we all know there is still a lot to do. Because recovering from an earthquake is a marathon, not a sprint I helped set up the Residential Advisory Service and the Insurance Tribunal. I've also been involved in the redevelopment of Donnell Park, Wainoni Park, Horseshoe Lake amenities, rebuild of QE2, and the Aranui Community Centre.
I'm proud that our People's Choice team prevented the sale of our airport, electricity network and other assets. Without dividends from them, our rates would be even higher. I will totally oppose any attempt to commercialise or privatise our water supply.
Challenges remain - roads, footpaths, housing, and the red zone. I seek your support in continuing to rebuild our ward.

My message is simple. Look after Burwood. Stop ridiculous rate rises. Fix our roads and buildings, and look after our people. The housing conditions of many need immediate attention. We've been let down badly since the earthquake. It's time for a change
People living in the east want to be heard. I will represent your views at the council table as an independent voice. My commitment to the east is strong. I grew up here. My kids went to school here. My family has lived in Christchurch's eastern suburbs since 1945.
For more than 70 years my family business has built subdivisions, roads and many homes for people living in and around Burwood. I know this area well. We have to ensure that the remaining rebuild is not beyond the affordability of our ratepayer base.
We need people with commercial nous around the Council table

Burwood Ward - Coastal-Burwood Community Board (2 required)

Dean DAVISMy principal place of residence is in the Burwood Ward of the Coastal-Burwood Community Board area.

I grew up on the east side of Christchurch and my principal place of residence is in the Burwood ward area. Having prior volunteered in different organisations, I would now like the privilege of representing and helping the Burwood - Coastal community.
I believe in a straightforward and common sense approach, whilst trying to find the best solution for all parties involved. Our Burwood Coastal area in the past had so much to offer, although we have seen some progress in restoring our community, we are a long way from where most would want us to be and we deserve more.
Previously I was a Director of Supply Chain for a large international company and more recently an owner operator of small businesses, whilst volunteering for Business Mentors New Zealand. This background has enabled me to appreciate amongst other things the importance of communication, project management, budget control and people.

Bebe FRAYLEThe People's Choice - Labour

My principal place of residence is in the Burwood Ward of the Coastal-Burwood Community Board area.

As a long time resident of Dallington and the current chair of the Dallington Residents Association I work closely with community organisations in the Burwood Ward to advocate for the needs of residents. We've run several free events aimed at bringing people together to have fun, get to know each other, and strengthen community bonds. I've also organised workshops, information sessions and drop-in days to gather ideas about the future of our red zone.
The draft Regeneration Plan includes beautiful riverside landings - I want to ensure these become a reality. Right now I'm working with neighbouring RAs and Council to complete the groundwork to get a community centre in the Burwood Ward.
I'm seeking election because I want to take the ideas I've heard in my community and help turn these into reality. As a project manager with 15 years experience, I know I can get these things moving.

Community dynamics changed drastically post- earthquakes. I am seeking a fifth term determined Burwood Ward's needs are addressed.
New, vibrant communities in Mairehau-Prestons area will wait decades for council-initiated facilities. I'm seeing need for a community facility now to serve the Travis Country, Tumara Park, Waitikiri to Prestons communities. A Multi-Purpose Community Facility providing a place where community meet, enjoy activities and all ages.
Residential Red Zone suburbs forgotten eight years without any recovery investment - I am concerned about home ownership imbalance and well-being issues. My concept - an Area-Wide Community Facility became a Dallington-Avondale-Burwood community-led proposal successfully submitted by Community Board to council now waits for a future build date. My other initiatives enabled Outdoor Movies to support community wellbeing and Burwood Park's Outdoor Gym.
Other concerns: Tairoa-QE11 needs dedicated disability change facilities and an effective therapy spa. Land drainage/flood protection works. Community Safety.

Greg SUGRUEThe People's Choice - Labour

My principal place of residence is in the Burwood Ward of the Coastal-Burwood Community Board area.

I have lived, played and worked in Burwood for over 35 years. This is the place I was raised and where we now raise our children. I will provide local representation that has been missing in our ward.
Over the next three years I intend to be an advocate to ensure that the roads are repaired on time, investment in infrastructure continues, council assets are retained for the future, social housing is affordable, habitable and healthy, and that the red zone is transformed into a community asset we are all proud of.
I will work with our elected counsellor to make sure our ward of Burwood is the best it can be, that funds are used to better peoples working conditions, housing, education, access to transport and social support. Your vote for The People's Choice team will ensure our ward and community keep thriving.
Let's do this.
