Waimāero Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board members – Waimairi Ward.
Avonhead Community Group Inc
My principal place of residence is in the Waimairi Ward of the Waimāero Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board area.
The Waimairi area has been home to my family of five for over 25 years, and I’m proud to be part of such a strong, connected community. Serving on the Waimairi Community Board for the past three years has been a privilege, and I’m now seeking your support to continue this important work.
Waimairi is changing, and I’m committed to protecting what matters—our parks, people, and neighbourhoods. I bring independent leadership, clear communication, and a strong focus on local priorities.
With experience on school boards, the Avonhead Community Group, and local charities/church groups, I understand the issues we face. I’m a qualified teacher with a Master’s degree in Japanese and Education, and my years living in Asia shaped my values of respect, inclusion, and community.
I’ll continue to be accessible, proactive, and a strong advocate—ensuring your voice is heard where it matters.
Let’s keep our community strong—together.
TRULY INDEPENDENT ABSOLUTELY LOCAL
My principal place of residence is in the Waimairi Ward of the Waimāero Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board area.
As a mother of three, teacher, and small business owner living and working in Waimairi ward, I understand the everyday challenges families face. My flexible schedule allows me to be present, accessible, and proactive in addressing residents’ concerns. I bring a fresh independent voice, free from political baggage, centered thinking and a strong commitment to listening, learning, and taking swift, practical actions.
As a truly independent candidate for the Community Board, my decisions will be guided solely by what’s best for our community—not by any party lines. I will work for safer streets, support thriving neighbourhoods and local businesses, advocate for smarter spending, and ensure our rates are used responsibly.
I’m approachable, honest, and deeply committed to serving you with integrity. I ask for your trust and your vote—and I promise to work hard to be worthy of both.

My principal place of residence is in the Waimairi Ward of the Waimāero Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board area.
You deserve a strong voice on our local Community Board - someone who listens, acts, and truly understands our neighbourhood. That’s why I’m standing for the Waimairi Ward. As a long-time Avonhead local, raising my young family and running small businesses, I know first-hand the importance of safe streets, reliable infrastructure, and well-maintained parks.
Local government should work for you and deliver practical results. That means doing the basics well and ensuring your rates are used wisely. From me, you will get open communication, common sense, and someone who shows up and follows through.
Our Community Board has a strong reputation for getting things done. With your support, I’ll bring energy, accountability, and a down-to-earth approach to make sure Waimairi remains one of the best places to live in Christchurch. Contact me any time at ben.waimairi@gmail.com
