Councillor and Community Board candidates for the Innes Ward in the 2025 local elections.

Councillor – 1 vacancy

Innes Ward Councillor.

Pauline COTTER

The People's Choice

My principal place of residence is in the Innes Ward area.

A proud local resident of 38 years, I’m inspired daily by the strength and spirit of the Innes community. I’ve served as your City Councillor for 12 years and as Deputy Mayor this term.
The closure of Edgeware Pool drew me into local government. Eighteen years on, after strong community advocacy, construction of the new pool is finally underway and due to open this summer!
Collaboration is key. I’ve worked with residents and colleagues to deliver results, including securing $200M for flood protection in areas like Edgeware, and leading Council’s policy to plant two trees for every one removed.
I consistently vote to retain public assets, focus on performance, and make decisions that balance fiscal responsibility with future needs.
With financial and RMA certification, and experience as a Chair and Director, I bring both heart and skill to the table. I’d be honoured to continue representing Innes and Ōtautahi Christchurch.

Ali JONES

Independent

My principal place of residence is in the Innes Ward area.

You deserve a council that puts the basics first and gets them right.
Sensible spending, low rates, roads and footpaths that are safe and maintained, and a real say in what happens in your neighbourhood.
I’ve served the Innes Ward for 12 years as both a City Councillor and Community Board member, always independently and with your interests front and centre.
Residents tell me they want their roads and pavements repaired properly– that’s a very reasonable request. You want smarter council spending and more transparency, a more sustainable and strategic approach to city tree removal and planting, and how we manage valuable heritage wood.
You want council to focus on the things that impact your daily life, while keeping rates down.
I’m standing for the council because Innes deserves fresh, sensible, courageous, practical and empathetic leadership– that gets things done. You can make that happen.
Thank you for your support.

Matt CLOUGH

Practical. Independent. Future.

My principal place of residence is in the Innes Ward of the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board area.

Like you, I want Innes to be a place that simply works - for the people who live, work, and raise families here.
That means keeping rates in check, so renters and homeowners alike aren’t squeezed even harder. It means tackling traffic with practical solutions - not just throwing in more speed bumps or narrowing roads. And it means making long-term decisions now, so we’re not stuck fixing yesterday’s mistakes later.
I’m not here to play politics. My career has given me governance experience and a strategic perspective - helping me to ask the hard questions, challenge what doesn’t stack up, and back ideas that make sense for everyday people.
As a world champion athlete and Strategy Manager at a local business, I bring real-world problem-solving skills, fresh thinking, and a focus on outcomes.
If you want someone committed to building a better future for our community, vote Matt Clough.

Mike DAVIDSON

The People's Choice

My principal place of residence is not in the Innes Ward of the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board area.

I would love the opportunity to represent you on our community board.
I’ve lived in St Albans for over 35 years and attended school in Shirley. I’m a member of the Edgeware Pool rebuild committee and Deputy Chair of the Styx Living Laboratory Trust.
As an experienced community board member, I helped secure funding for Edgeware Pool, St Albans Community Centre and the 10 Shirley Road site.
Residents have told me they want housing intensification impacts addressed, local trees protected, and chlorine-free water. They want children getting to school safely, local shops supported, and the community listened to. These are my priorities too. I’ll continue ensuring our amazing volunteer community groups get the support they deserve and that Innes is inclusive and accessible for all.
Your vote for me will put a hard worker on the board, motivated to deliver better outcomes for Innes.

Emma TWADDELL

Independent

My principal place of residence is in the Innes Ward of the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board area.

As a long-time Innes Ward resident and two-term Community Board member, I’ve built a reputation for amplifying local voices and supporting projects that improve the services and infrastructure we receive in return for our rates. I believe in strong, local leadership that holds Council accountable and ensures transparent, community-informed decision-making.
I will continue to advocate for timely infrastructure maintenance, safer streets for our youngest and oldest residents, and transport corridors that offer real, usable options. I support new greenspaces, local flood protection, and better care for our waterways, trees, and wildlife.
I bring tenacity, governance experience, and a strong understanding of how to connect Council’s work across departments to support development that enhances wellbeing. I support local amenities that reduce isolation and strengthen community connection.
I will keep listening, keep pushing, and keep working for communities where residents feel confident their rates are delivering the quality services they deserve.
