Councillor and Community Board candidates for the Heathcote Ward in the 2025 local elections.

Councillor – 1 vacancy

Heathcote Ward Councillor.

Nathaniel HERZ JARDINE

The People's Choice

My principal place of residence is in the Heathcote Ward area.

I grew up in Sumner and Ōpāwa. I love it here - but as my wife and I struggled to find a first home, we realised that Christchurch isn’t built for young families or for our future. That’s why I’m running for Council.
I’ve knocked on doors from Scarborough to Sydenham. Most of us want the same things: pipes and roads kept in good repair; a rates bill that retirees can afford; forested hills and healthy rivers; decent housing in the CBD to reduce suburban sprawl; and a Councillor you can call when issues crop up.
As a community organiser, I’ve worked with small businesses and residents to block a bad deal with Wilson Parking, won a Living Wage for library workers, and kept Lyttelton Port 100% Christchurch-owned.
I understand local government and will work with you to keep our community voice at the core of decision making.
Vote Nathaniel.

Ian KEARNEY

Independent

My principal place of residence is in the Heathcote Ward area.

Christchurch is full of potential right now, but with rates increasing year after year as the cost of living rises, we must ask whether Council is getting the balance right.
With 25 years’ experience as a commercial lawyer, business owner, and independent director, I know how to set budgets, balance competing priorities, and make practical decisions under pressure. I know how to listen.
We deserve a Council that listens to its residents and delivers greater value for money, safer roads, cleaner water, cared for parks, and sensible transport choices that work for how you live.
I’m not here for politics - I’m here to help Christchurch run better and reach its potential.
My commitment is simple; to put our city’s interests before mine so Christchurch can be an even better place to live - for you, your family, and future generations.
That’s why I’m standing.
Back Christchurch. Vote Kearney.

Will HALL

Independent

My principal place of residence is in the Heathcote Ward of the Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board area.

Thank you for the opportunity to represent you on the community board in 2022-2025. Again I am asking for your vote.
We live in an amazing and unique part of Christchurch, and we must celebrate the positives. However, many residents tell me that the constant rise in the cost of rates is becoming unaffordable. I agree. Residents also tell me we need more green spaces, Heathcote still has one of the city’s lowest levels of tree canopy cover. We must mitigate sea level rise, manage housing density, and improve public transport.
Sensible spending of ratepayers money, accountability and transparency, residents tell me they want these things too. I also agree.
Where there are challenges, there are opportunities, and where there’s a Will (Hall), there’s a way.
I'm independent, experienced and energetic with common-sense. A vote for me is a vote for positive economic, social and environmental outcomes for us all.

Tim LINDLEY

TIM LINDLEY FOR HEATHCOTE

My principal place of residence is in the Heathcote Ward of the Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board area.

I have a science doctorate and am a business development professional with a passion for the environment, healthy cities, and effective democracy. As a board member of the Coastal Pathway Group, the Estuary Trust and the Ōpawāho River Network I work within the community to help create recreational opportunities and protect our natural environment. I now have nine years’ experience as a community board member and in that time strongly supported the Heathcote River recovery plan, many community support and development initiatives, and recreational opportunities for all.
If elected again I will work to ensure that our community board is effective at turning needs, hopes and ideas from our communities into actions that lead to results. I will seek to help Heathcote have a cleaner, healthier, urban environment, especially the waterways and estuary. I will support safe active urban transport, protecting our drinking water, and appropriate business development opportunities.

Jack MOULD

The People's Choice

My principal place of residence is in the Heathcote Ward of the Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board area.

I moved to the Heathcote ward in 2023 with my partner after buying our first home in Waltham. I love being near the Port Hills and the Ōpāwaho Heathcote River, and often visit Sumner for its great beach and top-notch fish and chips.
I run a small local business focused on animal welfare and environmental education. I understand the challenges small businesses face in today’s economy. I’ve organised local litter clean-ups and care deeply about protecting our native wildlife and ecosystems—something I would champion on the board.
I bring governance experience and currently serve as a trustee on the Christchurch Pride Charitable Trust, where this year we delivered the city’s biggest and longest-running Pride.
If elected, I will support small businesses, advocate for safety in our community, and protect the natural environment for future generations. I’m committed to building a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable Heathcote.

Daniel NIELSEN

My principal place of residence is not in the Heathcote Ward of the Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board area.

I am a 43-year-old father of two with a professional background as a journalist, university lecturer, and working in communications across various sectors.
My connection to our community is deep. While I don't currently live in the ward, I spend my summers at Heathcote Cricket Club, where I have been club captain for the past three years. Sumner Beach is my happy place and I love walking in the hills.
As your representative, I will advocate for the protection of green spaces, prioritising clean and safe waterways, a positive commuter experience, and grassroots initiatives. I am passionate about democracy and public service. I will ensure transparent decision-making and genuine community consultation.
Our community ward deserves proactive solutions, not reactive responses.
If you want energetic, passionate representation from someone who gets stuff done, give me your vote.
