Councillor and Community Board candidates for the Fendalton Ward in the 2025 local elections.
Fendalton Ward Councillor.
Independent Citizens
My principal place of residence is in the Fendalton Ward area.
You deserve real value from your rates and a Council focused on what matters most. For five terms, I’ve proudly represented you on the Community Board - including as Chair and Deputy Chair - I know how to get things done.
I’m committed to reducing rates rises, cutting wasteful spending, and refocusing Council on core services done well. That means fixing potholes, improving traffic flow, reducing unnecessary speed bumps, and enhancing our Garden City with more trees and green space.
I’ve lived and raised my family in the ward, built a career in business - including owning and operating Mona Vale Homestead, and managing a retirement village of 500 residents. Working in the community as a JP, I’ve served on the Institute of Directors (Canterbury), NZ Flying Doctor Service, Keep NZ Beautiful, and as the Mayor’s representative on the McLean Institute.
With your support, I’m ready to serve on Council.
For Fendalton's Future
My principal place of residence is in the Fendalton Ward area.
I’m standing to be our Councillor to make progress for our community and to ensure we plan responsibly for both today and the future.
Growing up in Fendalton, attending Medbury and St. Andrew’s College, and currently working here as a high school teacher aide has shown me our community’s deep sense of resilience and care. With my work for Parliament and regional charity leadership, and a Master's in International Relations and Diplomacy, I bring both a clear understanding of politics and the skills required in local policy, governance, and management.
I’m striving to ensure you get value for your money. Making sure core services like water, parks, and roads work well is key to this. We must also secure our city’s assets for the future, with full Council control. I intend to be a strong community voice for the interests of everyone in Fendalton.

It’s time for a change — your voice, your Christchurch
When leadership stays the same for too long, fresh ideas get lost. I’m standing as an independent candidate in the Fendalton Ward area to bring new energy, transparency, and a strong community voice to Council.
I’ve worked in New Zealand’s residential real estate sector as a workplace assessor and trainer, helping people navigate complex legislation and regulations for a number of years and bring a practical, people-first mindset focused on real needs.
Christchurch needs councillors who challenge the status quo, ask tough questions, and put people before politics. I’ll fight for smarter spending, better communication, and a council that works for you.
We don’t need more of the same. We need leadership that listens.
A vote for Diane Ellis is a vote for change — and for a council that puts your voice at the heart of every decision.

Professionally, I’m a senior government lawyer. I’ve worked in private businesses, big and small, here and overseas, and in local authorities too. I understand red-tape and how to wrangle it.
I love this city. I’m proud of our optimism, community spirit and practical mindset and I’ve loved helping us thrive: as an ambulance officer, youth leader for St John, trustee of Cobham Intermediate, and chair of the local toy library.
I believe in steady, evidence-based decisions. Not political rhetoric. I ask questions and challenge bad ideas.
I care deeply about how things work in our area and I notice when they don’t—from broken playgrounds and graffiti, to weird roading or funding decisions—because I live these streets daily as an active mum.
In my downtime, I give things a crack: bee-keeping, sailing, furniture restoration, rogaining, and playing Bananagrams with my kids—plus the occasional (slow!) adventure race.

I am asking for your vote for the Fendalton Ward of the Community Board.
As a dedicated resident since 2000, a local business owner, and a mother, I have a deep connection to our city.
My commitment is proven through extensive volunteer work with organisations like the SPCA, and Aviva (Women's Refuge), as well as EQ Claim Volunteer Work. I have also worked with the Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Programme. This service has given me a clear understanding of our community’s needs, and strengthened my resolve to be a proactive team player on your behalf.
If elected, my focus will be on what truly matters: Keeping rates fair and affordable; Enhancing council services to meet our needs; Reducing wasteful spending.
With a proven track record of service, I hope I can count on your vote this October to work to get the results our community needs.

After 15 rewarding years as your City Councillor, I’m excited by the prospect of contributing in a different way. My commitment to our community is as strong as ever.
With a deep understanding of council processes and a track record of delivering meaningful outcomes, I bring a business lens with a people focus, putting you and our city's future at the heart of decision making.
Curbing unsustainable rates rises and refocusing spending on the fundamentals matters, like well-maintained roads and footpaths, quality playgrounds, and greater tree canopy coverage to enhance our Garden City image.
I’m committed to ensuring our community is safe, vibrant, and affordable, now and for future generations.
While stepping back from Council to focus on business, governance and family, I have the energy and drive to contribute through our Community Board.
It has been my privilege to represent you, and I would value your support once again.

I’m stepping up again for Fendalton with four terms of experience, fresh energy, and deep roots in the ward. I’ve lived in Fendalton for most of my 32 years and, as a new mum, I’m determined to protect what makes Fendalton special and shape an even better future.
As your current deputy board chair, I’m across local issues, quick to act, and ready to roll up my sleeves. With a background in law and entrepreneurship, I back good business, champion sustainability, and help our neighbourhood thrive.
I’m proud to keep our area beautiful on the Keep Christchurch Beautiful Executive Committee, to be recognised with a New Zealander of the Year Local Hero Award, and to help put Ōtautahi on the map as a Tūwhana Business Events Advocate - proving my commitment to active citizenship and our city.
Thank you for backing me. I’ll keep listening, acting, and delivering for Fendalton.
