Councillor and Community Board candidates for Hornby Ward.

Hornby Ward - Councillor (1 required)

Jimmy CHEN

Jimmy CHENThe People's Choice - Labour

My principal place of residence is in the Hornby Ward area.

I am an experienced councillor and put people at the heart of my decision making.
As Chair of the Multicultural Subcommittee, it has been a privilege to lead the development of the Multicultural Strategy. It was launched in 2017 and received a Community Excellence Award.
As your local Councillor I have effectively advocated for many projects including the Hei Hei Community Centre, Hornby Temporary Service Centre and Awatea Road Upgrade. I secured the budget for the Hornby Library, Service Centre and South- West Leisure Centre and ensured Kyle park became the preferred location for this new facility.
I will continue to monitor the roads and footpaths, parks, reserves and traffic issues in our communities. I'm accessible, approachable and accountable, and I am standing as part of the People's Choice-Labour. Please re-elect me to ensure you have a Councillor who will serve you, your family and the people of Christchurch.

Mark PETERS

Mark PETERSIndependent for Hornby

My principal place of residence is in the Hornby Ward area. I am also standing for the Hornby Ward of the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board.

I'm passionate about representing our wonderfully diverse communities to Council.
When Denton Park needed saving last year, I led the Save Denton Park Group to save our park. After Denton Park was saved, we formed the Greater Hornby Residents Association to continue representing Hornby to the Council.
My family live in South Hornby, we love our community, and are actively involved at Hope Presbyterian Church in Hornby.
I believe it is time for Party politics to cease on Council, and I will be a strong effective Independent voice listening to you and getting things done for the good of our communities.
With large population and traffic increases post the earthquakes our infrastructure and roads struggle to cope. Our communities need me to represent us strongly to Council to ensure we get all that we need.
For common sense on Council, give Mark Peters 2 ticks for Councillor and Community Board!

Natalie BRYDEN

Natalie BRYDENThe People's Choice - Labour

My principal place of residence is in the Hornby Ward of the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board area.

I am looking for re-election for the Hornby Ward Community Board.
I want to hear your views on the new South West Leisure centre and how to make this a great asset for our community. It will be fantastic for all our residents and in particular our younger people to have access to swimming facilities.
We need to make certain residents get a great centre and that costs are kept down.
I also intend to keep a watchful eye on the proliferation of liquor outlets.
Hornby also has a very high percentage of liquor outlets and we must make certain that the community is listened to on this issue.
I have represented this area for the last seven years. I have a good understanding of what Hornby people want and what the community needs and want to keep advocating for Hornby's needs. Natalie Bryden

My principal place of residence is in the Hornby Ward of the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board area.

Western Christchurch is an amazing place to live, but under investment in infrastructure, traffic congestion and poor planning around things like quarries are challenging our community.
This election, I am asking for your vote for community board. With your support, I can make a difference as a local, committed, and active representative. Our community is growing fast and we need to take on these challenges. Originally a qualified Primary School Teacher, I am currently working in Financial and Operations Management for two local medical supplies companies.
Living in Templeton, I have been heavily involved in the Templeton Residents Association, especially with the No Quarry campaign, and I am aware of the current issues affecting our ward.
I am passionate about making sure Western Christchurch continues to be an amazing place to live, that we are treated fairly, and that our community's voice is heard.
