Candidates for Hornby Ward and the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board (Hornby Ward)

Hornby Ward Councillor

Electing 1 Councillor

Tane APANUITane APANUI

My principal place of residence is not in the Hornby Ward area.
From labourer to machine operator to qualified commercial pilot. I'm a proud Cantabrian who has bled building this city labouring and bled wearing red and black on the sports field too. The next generation should look back with gratitude for the one before.
Our city needs a vision, so the next generation can easily build upon the foundations we set, instead of finding solutions for the problems we leave.
Christchurch roads are congested. Stresses on the current infrastructure and more importantly the people is evident. A balanced solution of implementing new technologies and bringing back modes of the past on existing infrastructure is required.
Commuter rail is a viable option to reduce congestion in the city.
I am 100% committed to resolving these issues.
I will be the voice for the people. Because I've walked the same path.
Tane 'Tee' Apanui

Jimmy CHENJimmy CHEN

The People’s Choice - Labour

My principal place of residence is in the Hornby Ward area.
I hold Master of Commerce and Bachelor of Science degrees. I'm an experienced Councillor, who's passionate about getting things done. I want to put people at the heart of Christchurch regeneration.
As your Councillor, I've worked successfully on projects across the ward: Te Hapua-Halswell Centre, Hei Hei Community Centre, Hornby Temporary Service Centre, Wharenui Sports Centre, and the Wigram-Magdala Link. I have secured funding for the new Hornby Library & Service Centre and the South-West Leisure Centre.
As chair of the Council's Multicultural Working Party, I lead development of the Multicultural Strategy. This is the result of 25 years of advocacy by the community, and I'm proud that I was able to make it happen. I've worked with our sister cities like Shenzhen and Wuhan to build education, tourism and economic ties.
Please vote Jimmy and The People's Choice team, and give me another three years to serve you.

Sara HARNETT KIKSTRASara HARNETT KIKSTRA

Independent

My principal place of residence is in the Hornby Ward area. I am also standing for Hornby Ward of the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board.
I have lived in the Hornby Ward for 26 years. We have a farming business where we grow and export produce. The family is very involved with sport and outdoor activities.
While Hornby has not received the same damage from the earthquakes as other parts of the city, there are flow on effects in terms of planning, population shift and use of resources. I am the Chairperson for the Yaldhurst Rural Residents. As such I have experience with the various council and legal forums. While those activities sound rather dry that is the framework that shapes the environment we live in and our quality of life.
We submitted on the resource consent by the Canterbury Aggregate Group. This application has the potential to contaminate Christchurch's groundwater and is relevant to everyone in the Christchurch area.
If elected I will advocate for sustainability, the environment and communication with the community.

Electing 2 Members

Natalie BRYDENNatalie BRYDEN

The People’s Choice - Labour

My principal place of residence is in the Hornby Ward of the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board area.
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is our future.
I have spent my life in and around Hornby, raising my children and working for our community. I attended local schools and my children have, too. I am standing again because I want to ensure our community's voice is heard, and that they have someone who will fight for them. I work as a nurse aid, have been on boards of trustees for local schools and a leader with Hornby Community Patrol.
Let's work together and get Christchurch back to the amazing garden city it once was.
All houses should be dry and warm, let's work to make this happen.
A brighter future can only be achieved by hard work, good communication and transparency from everyone in our community.
A vote for me is a vote for a local voice.

Hi, Claire Exton here. I have lived in this area all my life and like most of you, very concerned about Traffic in and around Hornby, and it is getting much worse! We need to explore options to counter act this to make traffic flow better. Sporting facilities are another concern, for the young people and also the older generations to encourage exercise and socialising with others. Your Community Board is your voice to Council for you to express your issues and concerns and meetings are open to you to attend. I am just an average person living in the same Community as you, that has the same concerns as many of you do. I would love to be your voice, make things happen to benefit us all. Voting is a right for us all so let's make a difference! Bring Community back to Hornby!!
