John BURNJohn BURN

Independent

My principal place of residence is in the Fendalton Ward of the Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board area. I am also standing for Canterbury District Health Board.
Retired barrister - practised in Christchurch and for the last 23 years at the Sydney Bar. Returned to Christchurch 2014 after the death of my wife (Wendy Glasson): three sons and grandchildren.
Educated, to some extent, at St Andrews College, LL.B at Uni of Canterbury. Associate of NZ Institute of Management.
Previously three terms as City Councillor Christchurch, Chairman of Policy and Finance committee. Director of several public companies in both countries, including chairman of Australian tourist development company and an exchange-traded investment company and Deputy Chairman of Christchurch International Airport. Writer of many articles. Two years as television interviewer CHTV3.
Bad habits: writing letters to the editor, too many double faults at Elmwood Tennis. Continuing belief since my Council days in closer involvement with ratepayers, together with restraint on rate rises, and now I have the time I would work to achieve these ends.

My principal place of residence is in the Fendalton Ward of the Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board area.
I am currently deputy chair of the Fendalton-Waimairi Community Board and am seeking re-election for a third term. I am committed to our community, and those who live in it. The next few years will continue to be important for the development of Christchurch, and a strong community voice is needed to ensure we make the most of every opportunity.
I want to see a straightforward and common sense approach to the governance of Christchurch, with clear and open communication between all stakeholders.
My background is in hospitality and general management. I am a member of the NZ Institute of Directors, and a board member of Keep Christchurch Beautiful. My community involvement gives me opportunities to talk with people from a variety of organisations and interest groups; providing a broad perspective on what is happening across our city, and a sound base from which to advocate on different issues.

My principal place of residence is in the Fendalton Ward of the Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board area.
Being a fifth generation Cantabrian, I have lived in the area all my 24 years and have immense pride for my city. After my experience as President of the Student Volunteer Army, it was a natural step to apply my passion and commitment to the community. I am stepping up again with three years experience and enthusiasm, to ensure your opinions are upheld and supported. I will continue making a positive change where it counts whether it's maximising creativity, encouraging local talent, or pushing your values into action.
Having recently graduated with both Law and Arts Degrees at Canterbury University, I've made a conscious choice to remain in Christchurch during future focused decisions. Being one of the younger representatives, I bring a youthful perspective complimented by my previous term and local knowledge. Allow me to represent you so together we can flourish fresh development, respect tradition while embracing community compassion.
