We are upgrading wastewater infrastructure in Riccarton with the installation of new main pipelines and new lateral connections to individual properties.
The pipes have reached the end of their service life and need to be replaced.
We know this is a busy area so we’re working hard to keep traffic impacts to a minimum and complete the work as quickly as we can.
The wastewater upgrade began on 12 January 2026. All works are expected to be completed by late July 2026.
Work will be completed in five stages, shown on the map below.
See the works notices below for more details on the current stages of work.
Each stage will require a lane closure or road closure, depending on the location of the pipe and safe working space for machinery and personnel.
Traffic management, including detours, will be clearly signposted to help residents and commuters plan ahead.
Please expect delays and allow extra travel time.
On-street parking around each worksite area will be temporarily removed during work on that stage.
We distribute works notices and flyers to residents and businesses that are directly affected by the works in their area.
