The Council has committed $5 million to the construction of a hot saltwater pool complex on the New Brighton shore, and is seeking a commercial partner who will be responsible for developing and operating the facility.

The scope is still to be confirmed but will likely include such things as a large hot pool, private spa/soak pools, a wellness/beauty area, a café/lounge area, changing rooms and additional areas.

A hot saltwater pool was identified by the Burwood–Pegasus Community Board and the established New Brighton Centre Community Advisory Group as being the preferred legacy project for New Brighton. The Council confirmed this recommendation on 17 July 2014.

An Expressions of Interest document was then issued. The Director Facilities and Infrastructure Rebuild and the Legacy Projects and Business Recovery Working Group (chaired by Councillor Paul Lonsdale) have reviewed the responses received.

The project is likely to be handled by the Council's new Development Authority. A timeline is still to be determined, with construction likely to take around two years.
