Get out into one of Christchurch's awesome parks this Kidsfest with these super fun events!

Darkness transforms the natural world into a different place.

It feels different, smells different, looks different and sounds different. Many of our special wildlife (and pests) only come out at night!

Learn all about them on this self-guided lantern-lit walk at Pūtaringamotu-Riccarton House and Bush.

  • Lanterns on every evening from 5.30pm to 7.30pm during Kidsfest – Saturday 10 to Sunday 25 July.
  • Download and print an A4, double-sided booklet in English [PDF, 317 KB] or Te Reo [PDF, 322 KB] for more information about some of the wildlife who come out at night.

This trail is run by Riccarton Bush Trust.

Voyage through the Botanic Gardens and discover the plants of the Pacific Islands!

Learn about tropical food plants such as coconut and taro and try your hand at making Tongan ngatu (tapa) patterns and more on this self-guided discovery trail.

  • Please bring your own pencil or pen for activities.

The Botanic Gardens can be muddy and slippery – please wear sturdy shoes or gumboots and take extra care doing activities.
