Enjoy dramatic rocky landscapes and magical views - south across Lyttelton Harbour to the volcanic slopes of Banks Peninsula and north up the sweep of Pegasus Bay all the way to Kaikoura on a clear day.

Walkers on the Crater Rim, Evans Pass to Godley Head. Start: Evans Pass car park, Port Hills.

Finish: Godley Head Road, Port Hills.

Distance: 5km.

Time: 1.5 hours one way.

Toilets: Located at the Godley Head car park.

Dogs: Must be kept on leads.

From the car park at Evans Pass, walk along Godley Head Road where you'll see the start of the track immediately beyond the first cattle grid. It climbs steadily uphill and runs alongside a stock fence for the first kilometre.

There are fantastic views from both sides of the ridge before the track drops over onto the Lyttelton Harbour side and skirts around to Livingston Col.

Continue winding around to Breezes Col before traversing under steeper rocky bluffs and eventually dropping down to the Godley Head car park.
