An epic 21 km adventure on the edge of the city following the Ōtukaikino River.
The O21K utilises a network of tracks, managed by different organisations, to create one epic adventure through North Christchurch. Made up of sections of Templars Island Trail,(external link) the Ōtukaikino Track and Isaac Farm Track(external link), the O21K offers a new experience for semi-urban adventurers.
Complete the full circuit, walk a shorter section of your choosing, or challenge yourself to further explore either east along the Te Rauakaaka(external link) towards Brooklands Lagoon and Spencer Park, or west to McLeans Forest(external link).
You'll encounter everything from dense native plantings and riverside scenery to farmland on your journey. Don't forget your sunscreen, jacket, water and a snack!
Start | There are multiple points to access the track but we recommend the Whites Crossing picnic area and The Groynes. |
Distance | 21km |
Toilets | Three locations throughout the Groynes and Whites Crossing picnic area |
Dogs |
Dogs are prohibited from the Groynes except for on the Ōtukaikino Track where they are allowed to pass through on a leash. Dogs are also prohibited from Isaac Conservation Tracks. Dogs are allowed under effective control on Templars Island Trail and the trail between White's Crossing and the Ōtukaikino Track. Please note that if you intend to walk the entire O21K and utilise Isaacs Farm Track then you will not be able to bring your dog. |
Shared | The Isaac Farm Track is walking only but the rest of the track allows bikes. Cyclists should control their speed and give way to pedestrians |
