Takahe to town hikoi

Explore our city's urban biodiversity with iNaturalist superstar Jon Sullivan on a walk from the Sign of the Takahe to Christchurch Botanic Gardens.

Take the number 1 Cashmere/Rangiora bus to the Sign of the Takahe - meet at 9.45am at bus stop number 23476.

Walk back to the city centre, making observations along the way, led by INaturalist NZ expert Jon Sullivan, Senior Lecturer Department of Pest-Management and Conservation at Lincoln University.

Jon is interested in weeds, the native plants they compete with and the insects that eat them. He is also interested in documenting how nature is changing in NZ in response to changing land use, species invasions, and climate change. To do this, Jon obsessively makes thousands of nature observations every week - totalling 51,345 so far.

The walk is approximately 7.6 km.

Keep track of how we are going.
