Sea and shore of Whakaraupō: Past times in the harbour

An exhibition of historic photos showing recreation on Whakaraupō Lyttelton Harbour.

The exhibition's theme is the recreational use of the harbour, and includes historic images to tell the story of how local inhabitants have boated, swum, fished and relaxed in the harbour from the first years of European settlement.

Through engaging the community with the local history of the harbour we hope to encourage people to share their own images of the area by contributing to the Christchurch City Libraries Photo Hunt.

The exhibition is made up of photos from the Libraries' collections, with the majority sourced from previous Photo Hunts.

Library hours

    • Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm.
    • Saturday 10am to 1pm.
    • Closed Sunday and Labour Day.
