Red Zone Roving Bioblitz | Day 4 - Estuary edges

Join our team of rangers and experts to explore the estuaries and coastal edges of Bexley, South New Brighton and Southshore, recording nature as we go.

Join us as we explore the red zone from these field ‘hubs’ and discover our estuary biodiversity.

  • Bexley Wetland 9am-12pm meet at 33 Wetlands Grove
  • South New Brighton to Southshore 1pm-5pm meet at South New Brighton Domain car park

With the iNaturalist app and expert guidance, let's explore, record, and celebrate the biodiversity in this amazing landscape together! These areas are a diverse complex of salt marsh, mudflats, salt meadow, coastal bush and freshwater wetland areas at the mouth of the Ōtakaro Avon River. The estuary and associated wetlands host one of the highest densities of waterbirds in New Zealand. Over 100 species and up to 32,000 individuals have been recorded.

Wear weather-appropriate clothing, a good pair of walking shoes and a smartphone with the iNaturalist app downloaded.

Keep track of how we are doing on the City Nature Challenge website.
