Our stories in wool and thread

View textile display and interact with demonstrations.

In the Christchurch Guild of Weavers and Spinners room we will have:

  • A display of handcrafted textiles brought to New Zealand or created here over the last 150 years.
  • Demonstrations of preparing fleece, spinning, weaving, knitting, crochet, embroidery, dyeing and braiding. These demonstrations will show traditional techniques and traditional tools used to create contemporary textiles.

You can expect to see spinning, knitting, weaving, cut pile, tapestry weaving, embroidery, prepare raw fleece, dyeing, felting and crochet.

A wide range of techniques will be demonstrated on any day, but sometimes with a noted focus.
