Matariki in the Zone

Richmond Community Garden, Avebury House, and Avon-Ōtākaro Network host an accessible, welcoming winter event highlighting the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor.

We will mark Matariki Tradition and aspects of Maori tradition with food, music, activities and a week-long lighting display.

This year, more local groups than ever deliver an amazing family-friendly afternoon of cultural activities, followed by a hāngī cooked by the awesome team from Tuahiwi Marae.

There is a range of family-friendly activities, soup, boil up, and everyone's favourite fired bread, then the hāngī is uplifted, followed by exciting nighttime activities as the sun goes down.

Bring a torch or a headlamp to enjoy the evening activities.
