Visit this nineteenth-century Papanui church and learn about its history, the most historical book ever written, and the study of bells.
St Paul's Anglican Church was built in 1877, on the site of an earlier church. The church will be open and visitors can enjoy this historic building which has been restored and repaired following the earthquakes, formally re-opening in 2013.
The Bible will be a basis for our display and we will be opening our Bell Tower for tours. We will use the tours to educate and explain the role of a campanologist. Campanology can be defined as a scientific and musical study of bells.
As well as viewing a display of photographic and historical material, visitors can learn about the eight bells in our bell tower which chimed in 1880 to mark the consecration of the church.
Visit the graveyard in which the first burial took place in 1853 and see the resting place of a number of notable Cantabrians.
