The Christchurch Club is a unique private members' club that was founded in 1856 by a group of North Canterbury graziers.

The building was damaged in the Canterbury earthquakes however the tower remained intact and was restored when the club was rebuilt.

The Mountfort tower, which is the entrance from Worcester Street and the lobby for the Club, was built between 1860 and 1862 and is the only remaining original section of the building.

It is considered an important part of the city's architectural heritage due to its design by leading Canterbury architect Benjamin Mountfort.
