A New Latitude: An Antarctic Love Story

More than a talk, an invitation to step inside one of the greatest love stories and tragedies of Antarctic history.

Through the final letters Robert Falcon Scott written from his frozen tent and the quiet courage of his wife, Kathleen, photographic artist Rewa Rendall reveals the emotional heart of a story told through the eyes of a woman. Using the alchemical process of 19th-century wet-plate photography, Rewa explores how identity is shaped and witnessed through the lens. Drawing on her own Antarctic journeys, she invites you to shift your compass, rethink what is possible, and step into the blank page's history left behind.

Photographic artist Rewa Rendall works from Sir Joseph Kinsey’s historic darkroom, creating wet-plate portraits grounded in legacy and connection. Her Antarctic journey—sailing south and climbing untouched peaks—shapes her award-winning Visitors Book project, where contemporary stories of identity and courage continue Christchurch’s long conversation with exploration and the Antarctic.
