Temporary Road Closures for Matariki Festival and New Brighton Winter Fireworks Spectacular 2022

The Council has approved the temporary closures of the following roads, for the following events, on the dates and times shown below.

Matariki Festival

Roads to be closed:

  • Oxford Terrace between Gloucester Street and Worcester Street
  • Cathedral Square between Colombo Street and Worcester Street

Periods of closures:

  • From 5pm to 11pm Daily from Thursday 23 June 2022 to Sunday 3 July 2022

New Brighton Winter Fireworks Spectacular 2022

Roads to be closed:

  • Beresford Street, between Marine Parade and Owles Terrace
  • Brighton Mall, between Beresford Street and Union Street
  • Collingwood Street, between Owles Terrace and Union Street
  • Hardy Street, between Owles Terrace and Seaview Road
  • Mafeking Street, entire length
  • Marine Parade, between Hawke Street and Hood Street
  • New Brighton Road, between Hawke Street and Pratt Street
  • Oram Avenue, between Beresford Street and Hood Street
  • Seaview Road, between Owles Terrace and Union Street
  • Shaw Avenue, between Hawke Street and Seaview Road
  • Union Street, between Hood Street and Seaview Road

Periods of closures:

  • From 4pm to 9.30pm Saturday 9 July 2022
  • Rain Day contingency Sunday 10 July 2022

These closures are to be made under paragraph 11(e) of the Tenth Schedule of the Local Government Act 1974. These closures will apply to all vehicular traffic with the exception of emergency service vehicles, scheduled public transportation and vehicles directly involved with the event. No resident access will be available during the period of these closures.
