Proposed Temporary Road Closures for the Matariki Winter Fireworks 2022

The Council has received applications for the temporary closures of the following roads, for the following events, on the dates and times shown below.

Matariki Winter Fireworks

Roads proposed to be closed:

  • Beresford Street, between Marine Parade and Owles Terrace
  • Brighton Mall, between Beresford Street and Union Street
  • Collingwood Street, between Owles Terrace and Union Street
  • Hardy Street, between Seaview Road and Owles Terrace
  • Mafeking Street, entire length
  • Marine Parade, between Hawke Street and Hood Street
  • New Brighton Road, between Hawke Street and Pratt Street
  • Oram Avenue, between Beresford Street and Hood Street
  • Seaview Road, between Owles Terrace and Union Street
  • Shaw Avenue, between Hawke Street and Seaview Road
  • Union Street, between Hood Street and Seaview Road

Proposed period of closures:

  • From 4pm to 9.30pm Saturday 9 July 2022
  • Rain Date Contingency Sunday 10 July 2022 

These closures are proposed to be made under paragraph 11(e) of the Tenth Schedule of the Local Government Act 1974. The proposed closures will apply to all vehicular traffic with the exception of emergency service vehicles, scheduled public transport services and vehicles directly involved with the events.

No resident access will be available during the period of these proposed closures.

Any person who wishes to object to the proposed closure may do so in writing to the Council Secretary, Christchurch City Council, PO Box 73016, Christchurch, no later than 9am Friday 27 May 2022.
