Christchurch City Libraries’ highly anticipated annual Big Bargain Book Sale is being postponed again because of the change in COVID-19 alert levels.

The Big Bargain Book Sale was scheduled to take place at Pioneer Stadium on 28 and 29 August, after being postponed in March because of the country-wide lockdown.

Christchurch City Council Head of Libraries and Information Carolyn Robertson says that unfortunately the move last week to Alert Level 2 has “yet again put a hold on sale plans”.

“While our bargain sale may be well overdue, it would be virtually impossible to ensure social distancing at the sale so we have made the difficult to decision to postpone the event again.

“We must take the right measures to keep people safe in these challenging times. We have rescheduled the book sale for 16 and 17 October, by which time we are hoping that Christchurch will be back at Alert Level 1,” Ms Robertson says.

“Rest assured that when the Big Bargain Book Sale finally does take place, there will be some great bargains on offer. We’ve got thousands of withdrawn library books, magazines, CDs and DVDs just waiting for new homes,’’ Ms Robertson says.
