A British duo with royal pedigree have been called into add some spit and polish to Christchurch’s city centre.

The lippy-wearing cleaning ladies have been hard at work in Worcester Boulevard putting a sparkle on the city’s well-used tram lines.

A new cleaning crew at work in Worcester Boulevard.

It is not their usual gig – they “generally clean for the Queen’’ - but they’re happy to be in Christchurch and keen to share their cleaning tips with the public.

“Want to know how to get rid of kitchen odours, dear?’’ one of them asks. “Eat out.’’

“Never clean higher than your tallest guest,’’ advises the other.

The pair are Cocoloco, one of the international acts in town for the Bread & Circus buskers festival.

The festival began late last week and runs through until 3 February, beginning with an intensive 10-day program full of exciting free events, exceptional ticketed shows, and world-famous busking pitches. The ticketed program and festival hub will then extend into February.

Kerry Pawsey was among those out and about in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon enjoying the festival. She had brought her neice, Talia Donald, who is visiting from Whangarei into town to see the buskers and was loving every moment.

“It’s awesome. It is nice the way things have been set out this year – everything is bit more accessible. It is definitely an enticement to come into the central city. And it is a great way to see what’s new and what else has been happening,’’ Ms Pawsey says.
