The proposals for the new Linwood Pool have been revealed, and the community now has the chance to give feedback.

“Our consultation with the community earlier this year provided a lot of direction about what local residents wanted,” Christchurch City Council Head of Recreation, Sports and Events Nigel Cox says.

“We took all those suggestions on board while developing the proposed layout and proposals for how the facility might look,” Mr Cox says.

“The feedback we got was very positive – we’ve had some great suggestions from individuals for tweaks here and there, which our designers are looking forward to going through, and the main message we heard from the community was that they can’t wait until it’s built.”

The proposals were revealed at a recent family friendly event in Linwood Park, attracting more than 300 people from across the community.

Christchurch City Councillor Yani Johanson says it “was great to have an opportunity for people to come together at a fun event in Linwood Park and see, first-hand, the initial layout for the eagerly anticipated Linwood Pool and potential improvements to Linwood Park”.

“People are really excited about it and it is very important that the Council gets valuable feedback to help us in the next stage of design,” Cr Johanson says.

“I am really looking forward to that next phase getting under way in 2019.”

The high-profile section of Linwood Park on the corner of Linwood Avenue and Smith Street was chosen earlier this year as the site for the new pool. The new facility is set to open in late 2021.

People can provide feedback on the proposals online at ccc.govt.nz/HaveYourSay until 9am, Monday 17 December. They can also view and comment on planned changes to Linwood Park to make sure it works well with the new facility.

The next step is to start working on the final concept design, which is planned for release in April 2019.
