Five people have put their names forward for the vacant Community Board position in the Lyttelton subdivision of the Banks Peninsula Ward.

The position became available earlier this year following the resignation of Banks Peninsula Community Board Chairperson Christine Wilson.

Christchurch City Council Electoral Officer Jo Daly announced this afternoon that five people have put their names forward as candidates for the by-election.

Those five people are:

  • Yvette Couch-Lewis
  • Paul Dietsche (Independent)
  • Tyrone Fields (Labour, The People’s Choice)
  • Ashley Stanbridge
  • Robyn Struthers (Independent Citizens)

“It is great for Lyttelton and Banks Peninsula that so many people are interested in standing for the Community Board. It is a reflection of the high engagement level within the community and the willingness of people to get involved in local decision-making,’’ Ms Daly says.

The by-election will be conducted by postal vote, using the first past the post system.

Voting papers will be posted to Lyttelton Subdivision residents on the electoral roll from 24 to 28 April.

Voting will close at midday on Wednesday 16 May. The preliminary result of the by-election should be known later that day.
