The last hurdle has been removed in the Canterbury Horticultural Society's plan to sell its hall in Hagley Park to the Canterbury Cricket Trust (CCT).

The society no longer wants the hall and has agreed to sell it to CCT, who are keen to develop it into an indoor cricket and sports training facility.

However, the sale has been conditional on getting agreement from Christchurch City Council that the ground lease  - the lease over the land on which the hall sits - can be transferred from the Canterbury Horticultural Society to CCT.

That agreement was unanimously given by the Council at its meeting this morning following deputations from the Canterbury Horticultural Society, CCT and Hands off Hagley Group.

Speed limit changes

The Council has agreed to alter the speed limits on seven roads in the Halswell ward following consultation with the community.  The speed changes will affect Halswell Junction Rd, Wigram Rd, Marshs Rd, Quaifes Rd, Milns Rd, Sutherlands Rd and Sparks Rd, and will come into force on April 1.
