The city centre’s outdoor ping pong tables have been getting plenty of use over the past few weeks.

Fletcher Mason, 11, plays ping pong.

Fletcher Mason, 11, enjoys a game of ping pong while visiting the central city.

The concrete tables – at the western end of Cashel Mall, near the Bridge of Remembrance – were installed by Gap Filler as part of a series of community-led projects aimed at showcasing the cultural diversity of Christchurch.

The ping pong tables were installed in collaboration with the Chinese Cultural Association and are available for the public to use any time over the summer.

You can bring your own bats and balls or borrow some from Cosmic Corner in Re:Start or Cafe Therapy on Hereford St for a refundable deposit.

Check it out next time you’re in the CBD. The ping pong tables will be in place till the autumn.
