This work has been commissioned to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra (CSO), and we invite you to celebrate with us at its premiere.

We welcome back internationally renowned violinist Natalia Lomeiko to perform Bruch’s luxuriant Concerto No 1 in G minor.

Said by Beethoven to be his favourite, his third symphony is an astonishing piece of music that takes us on a profound and ultimately uplifting emotional journey. Not only was the symphony revolutionary in its musical context, but it was originally intended to celebrate Napoleon Bonaparte and his stance against political tyranny. Upon Napoleon declaring himself Emperor, Beethoven famously scratched out the dedication to Napoleon and renamed the symphony The Heroic (Eroica) instead.

The Chief Conductor will be Benjamin Northey.
