Let's Dance as we remember the hero, David Bowie, in this year's jaw-dropping pyrotechnics display at New Brighton Pier.

Guy Fawkes Fireworks Banner

As the sun machine is coming down, we’re gonna have a party!

Put on your red shoes and join us for the Treetech Guy Fawkes Fireworks Spectacular, Saturday 5 November, New Brighton Beach.

Far above the moon, the fireworks display will start at 9.10pm, with a light show under New Brighton Pier beginning at 9pm. Food stalls will be open from 5pm so come down early, get a comfy spot among the dunes and settle in to remember a hero, just for one day.

We’ll be sending updates to Major Tom, so remember to check in again for weather updates.

Information for Guy Fawkes 2016 visitors

For those who don’t bring their own radios, a sound-system will be installed to provide perfect acoustics for 70 metres on either side of New Brighton Pier.

Food trucks will be onsite from 5pm.

Revellers are encouraged to arrive early and find a vantage point on the beach. Crowds are asked to leave their own fireworks at home and to be mindful of New Brighton’s alcohol ban.

We suggest taking public transport to the event. Check bus information here.(external link)

For those driving to the event, there will only be on-street parking available. Pages Road is currently one-way westbound between Anzac Drive and Breezes Road, and New Brighton Road is closed between Palmers Road and Baker Street.

The best approaches to New Brighton on the day will be via Dyers Road from the south, Wainoni Road from the west and QEII Drive and Burwood Road from the north.

Information for pet owners on Guy Fawkes

Guy Fawkes is the most stressful time of year for our pets.

Because fireworks often cause frightened dogs and cats to run and hide, it’s also the busiest night of the year for Christchurch City Council’s Animal Management Team.

  • Keep your pets safely tucked away at home – ideally with some music playing to keep them relaxed.
  • Make sure your pet is wearing a collar for easy identification.
  • Update your contact details with the Council.
