Ecological monitoring by the Christchurch City Council.
Water quality monitoring in the estuary is currently undertaken by Environment Canterbury. There is the potential that a few coastal sites will additionally be monitored as part of the proposed Comprehensive Stormwater Network Discharge Consent.
The Christchurch City Council has also carried out a number of other investigations in the past, including fish, cockle and seaweed surveys. Monitoring of sediment, macroalgae and benthic invertebrates in the estuary has been undertaken annually in March/April since 2007, as part of the Healthy Estuary and Rivers of the City monitoring program. This data is then collated and reported by Environment Canterbury; these reports can be found on their website.
