A Celebration of Christchurch's diverse cultural communities coming together for the passion and love of the game of football.
The Global Football Festival is organised in partnership between Christchurch City Council, Christchurch Football Centre and NZ Police, supported generously by Mainland football, and Plains FM.
Now in its 13th year this event is a well anticipated festival by many from around Canterbury. Using the global language of football the event aims to bring together communities form all different background to unite in their passion for the game, share their culture and create a sense of belonging to Christchurch and New Zealand.
16 teams will compete in the senior tournament representing countries from around the World, bringing together and celebrating Christchurch’s diverse culture.
2017 will see the introduction of an inaugural female section, an exciting addition which will see 16 teams of young players aged between 10 and 15 years old showcasing the female football talent we have in Canterbury.
A junior’s festival will also be held from 1-4pm on Saturday 11 February with over 50 children from different ethnic backgrounds coming together to play a series of mini games, giving them a fantastic experience of playing on one of the best turfs in Canterbury.
It is hoped that by providing this opportunity, participants will go on to join a team and play regularly.
